Santa Barbara Revels, 2007
In 2008 I designed the costumes for two productions at Santa Barbara City College: Rumors and All in the Timing. The image on the top left is from Rumors, a Neil Simon comedy set at a fancy dinner party circa 1980.
The image on the top right is from All in the Timing, a collection of one-act plays by David Ives. There are 6 one-act plays in this production but I can only find an image from one of them. The sketch pictured (entitled Words, Words, Words) takes it’s premise from infinite monkey theorem – the idea that randomness, over time will eventually result in order. Infinite monkey theorem suggests that, given enough time, monkeys could eventually write Hamlet.
The bottom three images are of the Santa Barbara Revels‘ Winter Solstice celebration. For this production I drafted and built Medieval tabards for the Quire of Voyces, sashes and rosettes for a troupe of Morris dancers, and full costumes for two characters: a jester and a king.
This production was my first design experience. I designed and built it out of my bedroom, on a very limited budget, without a team or any assistance. My favourite part of this build was designing, drafting, cutting and assembling the cockscomb-inspired jester’s hat.
